Two Toddlers Drown In Open Wells in Harare Suburbs

Police in Harare have confirmed two heartbreaking incidents in which toddlers drowned after falling into open wells in separate suburbs of the capital.

In the most recent case, little Anna Taibva, just one year and five months old, drowned in an open well in Ushewekunze on 23 May.

According to the police, the tragic incident happened while the child was playing near the well, as her mother was nearby watering the garden.

Earlier this month, on 12 May, another toddler, aged just one year and three months, died in a similar accident in Komboniyatsva, Epworth.

The child was playing outside with other children while her mother was doing chores inside the house when she fell into a nine-metre-deep well.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has urged parents and guardians to be extra cautious, especially in areas where open wells or other potential hazards are within reach of children.
