Joannah Mamombe Seeks US$100,000 In Defamation Case Against Fellow CCC MP Bridget Nyandoro

Joanah Mamombe, the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Member of Parliament for Harare West, has filed a defamation lawsuit against fellow CCC MP Bridget Nyandoro, who represents Southerton.

Mamombe is seeking US$100,000 in damages, alleging that Nyandoro made false and damaging statements about her character and conduct.

According to court documents submitted to the High Court, Nyandoro is accused of claiming that Mamombe had an affair with former CCC leader Nelson Chamisa and received favours, including from members of the ruling party, in exchange for sexual acts.

The summons outlines additional accusations allegedly made by Nyandoro in private WhatsApp conversations.

These include claims that Mamombe bears personal animosity toward Nyandoro, fails to represent public interests, and engaged in various forms of misconduct.

Among the allegations are that Mamombe illegally acquired wetlands, corruptly secured employment for relatives at the City of Harare, staged her own abduction, stole land, committed rape, misrepresented herself as a human rights advocate, and was involved in a physical altercation with fellow politician Wellington Chikombo.

One claim alleges she forcibly entered Chikombo’s home and demanded to sleep between him and his wife.

Mamombe maintains that these statements have severely damaged her character, portraying her as corrupt, dishonest, immoral, and untrustworthy. She specifically identifies Nyandoro’s alleged accusation of hypocrisy as defamatory.

Nyandoro has been given ten days to respond to the summons. If she fails to do so, the High Court may proceed with Mamombe’s claim in her absence.
