CCC Caucus Sets Out Legislative Priorities, Vows To Resist Mnangagwa 2030 Agenda

The official opposition, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) parliamentary caucus, held a formal briefing at Parliament on Wednesday, 21 May.

According to Hatcliffe MP Agency Gumbo, the meeting was attended by 45 Members of Parliament from both the Senate and the National Assembly.

Gumbo said the caucus was also attended by members of the party leadership, who reaffirmed the resolution of the Citizens National Assembly that Parliament should serve as a platform “for prosecuting the struggle for the total transformation of the living realities of the people of Zimbabwe”.

Following in-depth deliberations, the caucus adopted several key resolutions, as outlined below:

1. The Members of Parliament stand firmly on the resolution of the Citizens National Assembly which declared that no deployee whether in Parliament or Local Government shall be subjected to any meeting or process whether officially or otherwise convened and or undertaken by Sengezo Tshabangu or Welshman Ncube.

2. The Members of Parliament present shall henceforth be referred to as the PROGRESSIVE CAUCUS whose thrust shall be to propose, advance and escalate an agenda for political, electoral and economic reforms in Zimbabwe through the platform of Parliament.

3. Any caucus meeting of Members of Parliament convened outside the Progressive Caucus constitutes a separate organisation unaligned to the party which sponsored Members of Parliament in the 2023 General Election, which party’s Presidential Candidate is Nelson Chamisa.

4. The Progressive Caucus denounces all calls for constitutional amendments which seek to extend the tenure of both Parliament and the Presidium beyond 2028. All such advances shall be resisted in Parliament and outside Parliament.

4.1. The Progressive Caucus shall thus, through collaborative efforts with progressive and organic forces, advance a Citizens anchored campaign against the Emmerson Mnangagwa 2030 Agenda.

5. The Progressive caucus shall publish a bi-weekly brief on Parliamentary Processes including any announcements on Public hearings and Petitions. It was further resolved that an interactive platform be created for constant feedback to Citizens on key developments in Parliament.
