Masvingo South MP Tanatsiwa Mukomberi’s vehicle windscreen was damaged during an incident at a hotel car park, reportedly after he was found with a married woman.
Mukomberi was unharmed in the incident, which took place at a hotel in Harare.
According to police sources cited by ZimLive, the MP spent some time in his hotel room with the woman, who has not been named, before they briefly left in her white Nissan X-Trail, returning just before 9 PM. The source said:
When they pulled up at the hotel, the husband Wilson Mutambwani was lying in wait in a Toyota Aqua. He must have got information that she was there.
Mutambwani, 38, of Vancouver Road in Braeside, allegedly assaulted Mukomberi before drawing a pistol and firing at the windscreen of his parked Ford Ranger, causing damage. Police have since determined that the weapon was a pellet gun. Said the source:
It was absolute carnage. The suspect then grabbed the woman’s handbag with her car keys and phone before jumping in his car. The wife also got in the Aqua and they left.
According to ZimLive, the couple returned to the hotel in a taxi at around 3 PM on 21 May before leaving in the woman’s X-Trail, which was still parked in the lot.
The woman told police that she is in the process of divorcing Mutambwani, but he has been refusing to accept the separation.
Mutambwani, who works at a panel-beating workshop in Msasa, has been charged with malicious damage to property and assault.
Police have also seized an air pistol believed to have been used in the incident.
When approached for comment, Mukomberi declined to respond to questions regarding the incident.
