Driver And Passenger Cheats Death As Lorry Rams Into Train In Kadoma

The driver of a lorry carrying sand and his passenger had a lucky escape after the vehicle crashed into a moving train at a level crossing in Kadoma on Wednesday night.

According to the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ), it seems the driver lost control of the lorry as it approached the crossing just before midnight.

Realising what was about to happen, both the driver and passenger jumped out of the vehicle, which then smashed into the last two carriages of the train. The NRZ said:

In yet another incident, a lorry carrying sand rammed into train at a rail/road level crossing in Kadoma last night.

Indications are that the driver of the vehicle lost control of the vehicle as it approached the level crossing at 2350hrs.

On realising this, the driver and his passenger jumped off the truck and left it to ram into the last two wagons of the passing train.

The two men were rushed to hospital where they were treated and discharged.

We keep urging drivers to exercise extreme caution when approaching all level crossings and avoid using defective vehicles.

The incident occurred less than 24 hours after six people were seriously injured when the car they were in collided with a train at a level crossing on Chiremba Road in Harare.

The driver of a Honda Fit tried to pass through the crossing in front of an oncoming train, causing the crash around 1 AM. The injured men were quickly taken to the hospital for treatment.

  1. I wish all injured speedy recoveries from their wounds. Once again and again vehicles are being hit or they hit trains or wagons, mainly by not Stopping at Rail/Road level crossings, which clearly show that drivers are not looking at all for danger.
