The City of Harare has confirmed the authenticity of a document circulating on social media concerning the regularisation and demolition of illegal structures but clarified that the report remains a preliminary internal draft.
The document, titled “Report on Regularisation and Demolitions of Illegal Structures in Harare,” is currently under internal review and has yet to be formally tabled before the relevant council committee.
In a statement issued on Thursday, 15 May, council authorities emphasised that the draft should not be construed as a final policy or decision, describing it as an administrative working paper aimed at facilitating lawful regulation and enforcement.
The Council further announced that it will soon commence a formal verification and enforcement exercise targeting illegal developments on Council, State, and privately-owned land within the city’s jurisdiction.
This operation, it assured, will be carried out in full compliance with government directives, the due process of law, and the provisions of the Regional, Town and Country Planning Act.
The Council urged residents to desist from engaging in unauthorised land transactions and the unlawful occupation of Council or State land. The Council warned that it would take appropriate action to address such contraventions.
Citizens with questions or concerns regarding land issues were advised to seek clarification directly from official municipal offices to avoid misinformation.
I really appreciate the effort you put into this content. Keep up the great work!
Information ,especially this type which affect the brains of people seriously, must not leak. People will be reminded of Tsunami and that was a bad time for many of us.
This document surely breaks hearts of many persons. But to those who built structures on reserved spaces for schools and other important facilities beneficial to communities,it will be now time to move out of those places.
Council wo on the other side must learn and see the effects of not doing their job on time ! Why all these land barrons ? Because council neglected its core mandate , neglected service delivery until land barrons took over and clients as always wanting service ended up in the hands of these rogue elements . So yes we need sanity in the city but we must take this drive also into the respective offices. Department of housing what are you doing in those office since development of budiriro surburb in the late 1980s ? Playing at work ka ! Or busy doing deals with the land barons too and taking bribes! Mave kutijhairira henyu taking public office as your personal resting places.
