After weeks of silence, former ZANU PF Central Committee member Blessed Runesu Geza made a comeback online on Tuesday evening, speaking in his usual strong tone.
He called for nationwide street protests on March 31, demanding President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s immediate resignation.
In a 30-minute “State of the Nation Address” posted on YouTube and X (formerly Twitter), Geza, dressed in military gear, described the planned event as “not even a protest, but an uprising.” He said:
Fellow Zimbabweans, we implore all of you on 31 March … everyone should invade the streets. We want spy Mnangagwa and his rogues to go.
Geza called on private individuals to help provide transport for protesters on the day of the planned demonstrations.
He also warned Police Commissioner General Stephen Mutamba not to interfere with the protests.
Geza, a war veteran, claimed that well-known opposition politicians like Nelson Chamisa, Job Sikhala, and Tendai Biti supported Vice President Constantino Chiwenga to become the country’s next leader.
Geza went into hiding more than a month ago after holding press conferences where he strongly criticised President Mnangagwa for allegedly planning to stay in power beyond 2028 when his second term ends.
However, Mnangagwa has repeatedly said he does not intend to seek a third term and has reaffirmed his commitment to upholding Zimbabwe’s Constitution, which explicitly prohibits a third term.
The police are eager to arrest Geza on charges of undermining the president and inciting violence, but his whereabouts remain unknown.
