Emerson Murigayi (54) of Masvingo appeared before Magistrate Victor Mohamandi facing charges of fraud and theft after he cleaned out the accounts of at least 7 civil servants based in the rural ares. He pleaded guilty to the charges.
The court heard that Murigayi moved around major wholesalers and supermarkets in Masvingo looking for customers who wanted cash. He would ask for the bank card and pin number of the card saying he would use the card to swipe for goods and give the card owners cash instead. After giving the victims part of the money in cash he would pretend to go back to make other transactions. He would disappear soon afterwards. He was arrested after using a card belonging to Steven Nyashanu. On his arrest he had 7 other bank cards which were not his.
