Police say they are hunting for Mutodi’s co-conspirators

The ZRP officers investigating Energy Mutodi, have revealed that they are hunting for Mutodi’s co-conspirators as the businessman was not working alone. Mutodi, who is a known ally of Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa, was arrested on Thursday night after a Facebook post in which he suggested that a coup was possible if President Robert Mugabe was not careful in choosing his successor. He was charged with causing disaffection among defence forces. Mutodi is expected to appear in court today.

Detective Inspector Josephat Chitumbura told magistrate Elisha Singano,

Investigations carried out so far have established that there is a concerted effort by an organised syndicate of high-powered people working in cahoots with the accused, which we are still working to establish.

Police are still working with digital forensic analysts to recover additional material from the accused’s Facebook account, with a view to pressing additional charges
