At least 5 people from the MDC-T’youth wing are reported to have been arrested in Gweru on Saturday. The youths were protesting against the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) over electoral reforms for next year’s harmonised elections. Claudius Makwara, the lawyer who is representing the youths, said that his clients have been charged with contravening section 37 of Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, that is participating in a gathering with intent to promote public violence, breach of peace and bigotry.
They are expected to appear in court today.
