Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) president, Advocate Nelson Chamisa has said political leaders need to be changed regularly, “like diapers” to ensure economic growth.
He urged Zimbabwean politicians to copy governance systems in neighbouring countries where there have been smooth transfers of power.
His remarks come as Zimbabwe is gearing up for the 2023 elections amid escalating violence.
Speaking from Maseru, Lesotho soon after attending the inauguration of incoming Prime Minister Sam Matekane, Chamisa said the wave of swift power transfers must leave lasting impressions on his fellow countrymen in positions of leadership. He told NewZimbabwe.com:
Zimbabwe has been plagued by contested and disputed elections. We must correct the process and set our country up for prosperity and growth.
The smooth transfer of power in Zambia, Malawi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya and more recently in Lesotho, is a good omen for Africa. Transitions happening in the region and on the continent are a good democratic lesson.
Power and responsibility must change hands. Change must not be seen as a threat. Politicians are like diapers, they must be changed regularly and frequently or else they spoil the baby. The baby being the nations and their economies.
He said transitions strengthen the nations and innovate and reinvent the State for national development and prosperity.
Chamisa, a former Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services during the Government of National Unity (GNU) said it was clear that undisputed and uncontested elections pave the way for national development and prosperity.
Zimbabwe is set to hold harmonised elections in 2023 with some watchdogs predicting that they will be marred by violence, therefore, will be disputed.
Babamunini dreams are allowed but in zimbabwe, long as you chamisa dont play in the same team with dhaggie, inkomichi etc, sorry you will never win in zim, sekuti uchiri on the age of pondium excitement you will see this with age, remember you are part of the polarising agent of zim politics, you dont find your former friends how do you win votes from zanu supporters, you remain a joker, arrogance for the sake of arrogance is stupidity and stupidity poisons unite of purpose – age will show you my point
If politicians must be changed like diapers, then how come you are monopolizing the opposition seat, like Madhuku. You lost an election but still want to contest.
