Self-proclaimed Prophetess Dupes Couple Of Proceeds From Selling Its Vehicle

A self-proclaimed prophetess from Bulawayo has been arrested after duping a couple of US$1 700 after they approached her seeking divine intervention in a business adventure they intended to start.

A police statement seen by Pindula News says the Prophetess, Moyo Sideline ordered the couple to bring US$2200 but only gave them back US$500. Reads the police statement:

1/2 On 04/10/22, Police in Bulawayo arrested Moyo Sideline (43), a self-proclaimed prophetess, who duped a couple of US$1700. The couple, who had sold a motor vehicle with the intention of starting a poultry business, approached the suspect seeking spiritual intervention for their intended business to succeed. The suspect ordered the couple to bring the US$2200 they got from the vehicle sale at her shrine. She took the money and spent US$1700 and later returned US$500 as the complainants demanded their money.

There are many people who have previously been duped by “spiritual” healers with several cases spilling into courts. The case of Rotina Mavhunga who is also known as Nomatter Tagarira can be used as an example.

Mavhunga is a traditional healer and a spirit medium who claimed that diesel was oozing from Maningwa Hills, Chinhoyi, in 2007. Mavhunga who is educated up to grade 3 was found guilty, three years later, of defrauding and misinforming government officials.
