Gladys Sibanda a 42-year-old mother of four from Bulawayo who allegedly killed her four-year-old niece and buried her in the backyard of her rented home appeared in court yesterday. Bulawayo magistrate Mr Tinashe Tashaya remanded her in custody to the 2nd of June but advised her to apply for bail at the High Court.
In her warned and cautioned statement, Sibanda admitted that she killed her niece, but did not state the motive behind the alleged murder.
Sibanda is alleged to have physically abused her niece Thandeka Moyo. It is suspected that Thandeka may have died from injuries sustained during a beating.
The matter came to light after she failed to give satisfactory answers to questions about Thandeka’s location. She ended up giving conflicting statements when she was questioned by the police
