The National Prosecution Authority (NPA) is severely understaffed after mass resignations in the last two years. Prosecutors are reportedly leaving the organisation due to poor working conditions and the 24 who have resigned so far are yet to be replaced. Acting Prosecutor-General Advocate Ray Goba blamed the mass resignations on poor working conditions and urged the government to intervene.
Speaking in Harare yesterday Advocate Goba said:
I would like to implore Government to address the situation urgently to prevent a complete breakdown in staff morale and paralysis of operations as this will have the unintended consequence of facilitating criminal activity with impunity.
The NPA became operational in 2015 following the enactment of the NPA Act.
