Transparency International Zimbabwe accused of funding political groups pushing for regime change

The Herald has accused corruption watchdog, Transparency International Zimbabwe (TIZ) of funding political groups pushing for a regime change. The organisation was recently accused of inflating costs of hosting functions and personal benefits by former employee Mr Byron Mutingwende.

TIZ is accused of funding advertorials for Promise Mkwananzi’s Tajamuka/Sesjikile Campaign in the private media to mobilise people to attend anti-bond notes protests. TheHerald claims to have seen correspondence between a TIZ official and the advertising team of a daily newspaper, discussing payment for Tajamuka’s adverts. However, TIZ director Mr Loughty Dube denied working with Tajamuka but confirmed working with Sten Zvorwadza’s National Vendors Union of Zimbabwe.

The Herald also accuses the European Union of mobilising $500 million to fund anti-Government activities ahead of the 2018 elections. They allege that the EU’s training workshop held on March 16 in Avondale under the theme “Confidence Building” was done to radicalise youths to mobilise people against the Government especially in rural areas.
