Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals has released a statement clarifying on its duties with regards to the novel coronavirus.

There has been a confusion in the past particularly after reports which suggested that the medical institution rejected a patient who was exhibiting symptoms of the virus.

We present below the group’s statement below.

CLARIFICATION ON THE ROLE OF PARIRENYATWA GROUP OF HOSPITALS WITH REGARDS TO COVID-19

Please be informed that Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals is only screening patients and patient visitors for COVID-19. The hospital has not been designated a national screening centre for members of the public as is emerging from some quarters. We also wish to inform the public that the isolation tents which are set up close to the screening tents are not admission wards for COVID-19 patients as alleged by some social media articles. The isolation tents are only meant to accommodate suspected cases while waiting for an ambulance to pick them up and ferry them to Wilkins Hospital, which is specifically designated to handle infectious diseases like COVID-19. Please note that, those placed in the isolation tent remain suspected cases and not confirmed cases. The current role of Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals is to screen, detect suspected cases and facilitate movement to Wilkins Hospital for clinical management.

  1. Why do authorities in Zim always find themselves clarifying issues pertaining to their operations at every turn; why aren’t they trusted by their subjects?
