People who reside in Chitungiwa have lamented the water crisis that is seeing them spend long hours waiting to get water from community boreholes or buy water from water vendors, Aljazeera reports.
Different residents that spoke to the publication spoke about different problems they are facing and said:
The water situation is bad, water only comes on Saturdays for a few hours. But not at all times. On some Saturdays, it doesn’t come. It pains us to buy water the way we do now.
The kids are not studying at all as they are now spending most of their free time in water queues at the boreholes,
Married women are spending the night at boreholes and they have been many fights between couples with others accusing their partners of cheating on them and using the water crisis as an excuse to sleep out
At each house, there is an average of four or five families living together and sharing a single toilet. Each of the families have kids of their own. Without water, there is risk of diseases such as cholera
The young girls are also spending nights here with boys their age and some older. And it’s dark out here. They end up doing crazy things, and that is also worrying for parents
Harare City Council has been battling chemical shortage problems, power shortage problems and they say ratepayers owe the council $900 Million.
