‘If Marry Had Attempted To Kill Chiwenga, South Africa Would Have Promptly Investigated’

Marry Chiwenga (nee Mubaiwa), the estranged husband of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, has rubbished the allegation that she attempted to kill her husband while he lay prone on a South African hospital bed.

In her bail application through her lawyers Mtetwa & Nyambirai Legal Practitioners, Marry argued that the South Africans would have swiftly investigated the “incident” as it could have jeopardised relations between the two countries. She said:

This is impossible because such reports do not exist, for the simple reason that the incident did not occur as alleged or at all.

No doctor who respects his professional standing will be made to perjure himself.

Surely, a serious incident such as an attempt on the life of a sitting vice president with its potential to embarrass relations would have been reported in South Africa and investigated promptly.

Marry further contended that when Chiwenga was in China receiving treatment, he requested President Emmerson Mnangagwa to arrange for her to travel to see him.

She added that Chiwenga also sent US$30 000 for her personal upkeep and use.
