Pastor Evan to spend another night in jail despite being granted bail by High Court

Pastor Evan Mawarire will have to endure another night in custody, despite being granted bail by High Court Judge, Justice Clement Phiri.  One of  Mawarire’ lawyers Harrison Nkomo said that the #ThisFlag Movement founder  will only be released tomorrow at midday, as there was still some paperwork that needed to be done.  This maybe due to perhaps the time that the hearing was finished.   The hearing had to be postponed to 2:30 pm after the State had applied for a postponement in the morning.  The state said that they were unable to proceed, as they were not prepared since they did not have electricity the night before. However, Justice Phiri ordered them to file their response by noon and told them not to waste the court’s time by showing up unprepared.

Mawarire was granted $300 bail after Justice Clement Phiri had ruled that the evidence which had been presented by the state was weak.  Justice Phiri ordered Mawarire to surrender his passport and to report to Avondale Police Station every Monday and Friday.
