FULL TEXT: State Lawyer Seeks To Legalise Magombeyi’s Detention

The State has, through its lawyer, Nathaniel Chigoro filed an application at the High Court seeking to legalise the detention of the acting president of Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association, Peter Magombeyi at a local hospital.

The development comes after the High Court had ordered that the State should allow Magombeyi to seek medical attention from beyond the country’s borders.

Reports suggest that Magombeyi who went missing on the 14th only to be found on the 19th of this month was electrocuted and was injected with an unknown substance.

His doctors are said to have pushed for his release from Avenues Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

The state argues in its application that the Court ought to consider that there were reports suggesting that Magombeyi was abducted. Therefore, the state would like to ensure that the doctor, like any Zimbabwean citizen, was safe and that could be done when he is within Zimbabwe.
