The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe has reportedly allowed MultiChoice to collect subscriptions in foreign currency. This means that the company is exempted from Statutory Instrument 142 of 2019 which bans the use of all foreign currencies for domestic transactions.
This comes as a number of banks were demanding the scarce United States dollar and an extra commission to process DStv subscriptions for locals as more plastic money payment avenues are being closed.
Meanwhile, some Zimbabweans were now asking their relatives in South Africa to recharge their accounts through Shoprite and Checkers outlets.
MultiChoice Zimbabwe has sent a text message to its subscribers saying that payments could still be made through the banks in US dollars.
The company is likely to lose subscribers due to power cuts which have seen the country going without electricity for the good part of the day.
