The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) says its officers have intercepted a fuel tanker concealing more than 1,000 boxes of cigarettes, with an estimated revenue prejudice of about US$44,000.
In a brief statement, the Authority said both the tanker and the cigarettes have been detained pending further investigations and enforcement action.
ZIMRA warned that smuggling is not victimless, saying it robs the nation of revenue, undermines legitimate businesses and places compliant taxpayers at a disadvantage.
It appealed to citizens, traders and transporters to reject smuggling
