Blessing Togarepi may be Zimbabwe’s unluckiest husband after four marriages in the past six years — all of which have collapsed. The longest lasted just two weeks.

One marriage ended on the very day he paid lobola, before he had even lived with his wife.

Togarepi recently told H-Metro he even contemplated suicide after feeling robbed when his latest marriage to Aisha Lulu Chihota collapsed. He paid US$3,500 in lobola for her on 6 June in Mutare, but never got to live with her.

His ordeal began in 2020 when he married Anita Nyoni. He said he paid US$9,200 in lobola, but the marriage lasted less than five days.

In 2021, he married Natasha Chamisa after reportedly paying US$18,000 in lobola. Their marriage collapsed two weeks after a lavish wedding.

Togarepi said Natasha, who was pregnant at the time, left without explanation. The two now have a son, whom he sees twice every fortnight.

He then married Purity Kufakwenyika, paying US$1,000 in lobola. That marriage also lasted only five days.

After that, he decided to settle with Aisha, who told him she was a student pastor at St James United Methodist Church in Dangamvura.

When he paid lobola, her relatives said she had suddenly fallen ill and was therefore unable to go with her husband.

They assured him she would join him after she recovered, but she never did.

The matter was taken to Chief Mutasa’s court, which ordered Aisha’s relatives to refund the lobola money on or before 31 August.

Togarepi said he grew up as an orphan and was raised by relatives, which motivated him to work hard. He is now a mining consultant.

He said he married his first wife, Anita Nyoni, following all customary procedures, and after they started living together, they went for evening prayers.

“While at the church, she manifested, acting like a snake in the presence of the church members,” said Togarepi.

“She then confessed that she was a sangoma, so when she manifested, it was around 2020, during the days of COVID-19.

“I then went to mine, and when I came back, she was gone. Her mother started giving me threats, saying I wanted to kill her daughter, and they started blaming me.”

In 2021, Togarepi married Natasha Chamisa, paying US$18,000 in lobola. The couple had a lavish wedding and have a son together.

“As usual, I went with Natasha kuchurch kuChitungwiza before she started manifesting while in the car,” he said.

“She tried opening the door while the car was moving. She insulted me.

“I tried to engage her relatives, explaining to them about her manifestation.

“We started having issues, and she acted like a victim, yet she had insulted me kuti I was a weak man.”

He said his third marriage also failed to last. What surprises him, he added, is that none of his wives took any money when they left.

On 6 June 2026, Togarepi married Aisha Lulu Chihota in Mutare, but after he paid lobola, her family refused to release her, promising he would get his wife after three weekends.

He said his sister, Rosemary Togarepi, and Nickson Matanda accompanied him to her relatives’ home, but they were chased away after his wife started manifesting.

According to him, the spirit demanded to know why they had married off its wife and threatened Togarepi, saying it would destroy everything if he got married.
