The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) says its recent Memorandum of Understanding with Scottland Football Club is limited to the live broadcast of one match – the club’s international friendly against South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs in the Toyota Cup Challenge.

In a statement issued on Friday, 17 July, ZBC said the agreement does not cover Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) fixtures.

The clarification follows speculation over the scope of the MoU signed between the national broadcaster and the 2025 PSL champions.

“The Memorandum of Understanding relates exclusively to the live broadcast of Scottland Football Club’s international friendly match against South African football giants Kaizer Chiefs in the Toyota Cup Challenge,” ZBC said.

“The agreement does not extend to Castle Lager Premier Soccer League fixtures.”

ZBC said the Premier Soccer League was fully aware of and aligned with the agreement, adding that the MoU does not affect local league matches, which continue to be governed by the existing broadcast deal between ZBC and the PSL.

The Corporation said it remains the official broadcast partner of the PSL and that all league matches shown on ZBC are assigned by the PSL.

“The Corporation is committed to providing fair, balanced and comprehensive coverage of league football involving all participating clubs,” it said.

ZBC added that all football clubs are free to partner with the national broadcaster on initiatives that fall outside the scope of the PSL agreement.

“As the national broadcaster, ZBC remains committed to collaborating with clubs and other stakeholders to showcase international fixtures and other special sporting events that promote Zimbabwean football and country at large.”

The broadcaster said such partnerships form part of its broader strategy to mobilise quality local sports content ahead of the launch of a dedicated sports channel, to strengthen the visibility and commercial growth of Zimbabwean sport.
