Chivi Man, 48, Dies After Drinking Two Litres Of Guchu

A 48-year-old man from Chivi has died after consuming two litres of a sexual enhancement concoction locally known as guchu.

Masvingo Provincial Police Deputy Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu, confirmed the death of Knowledge Chikafu of Mutsimba Village under Headman Gororo, to Masvingo Mirror.

Chikafu drank the concoction on Sunday at around 2 PM after purchasing it from 71-year-old Juliet Majoni of Chikamure Village, Headman Madzivire, at Ngundu bus terminus.

Shortly after, he began vomiting and was rushed by his brother, Peter Chikafu, to Gororo Clinic at around 4:30 PM.

As his condition worsened, he was referred to Chivi District Hospital and later transferred to Masvingo Provincial Hospital, where he died on Wednesday at around 9 PM. A postmortem has not yet been conducted.

Police have arrested Majoni and recovered a bucket allegedly used to mix her concoctions.

Patinyu urged citizens not to buy unregulated remedies from unlicensed practitioners to avoid unnecessary loss of life.
