Three Copper Cable Thieves Nabbed In Headlands

Police in Headlands, acting on a tip-off, have arrested three suspects for the unlawful possession of materials associated with electricity infrastructure. The arrests took place on June 9, 2025, following a surveillance operation.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi identified the arrested individuals as Jacob Muzungunye (33), Tinashe Musara (31), and Tatenda Zimwenje (25).

The suspects, using a Toyota Auris and a Toyota GD6, were reportedly observed loading copper cables into their vehicles in a bushy area near Yorkshire Primary School.

Nyathi said detectives subsequently tracked the trio and arrested them at Home Park Business Centre in Macheke.

During the arrests, law enforcement officers recovered a variety of copper materials from the suspects’ vehicles.

These included pieces of armoured copper cables, transformer copper windings, scrap geyser copper pipes, and water tape off-cuts, all commonly used in the generation, transmission, distribution, or supply of electricity.
