A 30-year-old Kwekwe man, Kumbirai Ngoreta, has been fined US$100 or sentenced to 100 days imprisonment in default of payment after being found guilty of impersonating a public officer.
Ngoreta’s offence occurred after he refused to pay the bus fare, falsely claiming to be a member of the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) from the President’s Office.
The incident took place on June 8, 2025, at approximately 4 AM, while Ngoreta was travelling as a passenger in a Honda Fit.
When he refused to pay the fare, he asserted his fabricated identity as a Central Intelligence Officer.
Fortunately, a police officer, identified only as Constable Chagoma, was also on board. Constable Chagoma requested the driver to proceed to Mbizo Police Station to verify Ngoreta’s claim.
It was there that they discovered Ngoreta was lying, leading to his immediate arrest and subsequent arraignment before the Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court.
