Takwara On Target As Warriors Draw 1-1 With Niger

Zimbabwe played to a 1-1 draw against Niger in an international friendly match held at the Stade Pere Jego in Casablanca, Morocco, on Tuesday, June 10th.

The performance was an improvement for the Warriors, especially after their 2-0 loss to Burkina Faso in another friendly just last Friday.

Zimbabwe got off to a promising start, taking an early lead thanks to defender Gerald Takwara. In a crowded penalty area, and with his back to the goal, Takwara displayed remarkable composure.

He expertly controlled the ball from a corner kick before unleashing a powerful, rising shot from close range that found the back of the net.

However, the Warriors’ lead was nullified in the 71st minute when they conceded a penalty, which Niger duly converted. The match ultimately concluded with a 1-1 stalemate.

The friendly also saw some exciting new additions and returns to the squad. Marley Tavaziva, who plays for English Premiership side Brentford, finally made his Warriors debut. He was joined by Sean Fusire of Sheffield Wednesday, who also earned his first cap.

Furthermore, the match marked a welcome return for Jonah Fabisch, a long-term absentee who plies his trade in Germany.
