Mkoba South legislator John Kuka (CCC) has donated two tonnes of cement to help build a new classroom block at Budiriro B Independent School in Gweru.
Speaking at the school over the weekend, Kuka expressed concern over the shortage of classrooms, which has led to hot-sitting and an imbalanced teacher-to-pupil ratio in some schools. He said:
When I learnt that Budiriro B college was in the process of constructing more blocks, I said to myself I should donate towards this worthy cause.
Most schools engage in hot-sitting because of inadequate learning facilities and the teacher-pupil ratio.
So we are saying there should be more classroom blocks so that our children can have better education facilities.
Kuka also donated African traditional attire to the school to support and enrich its heritage studies curriculum. He said:
I was disheartened when I was called to this school at a prize-giving ceremony, and children were using buckets instead of traditional drums.
So I just decided to donate a full traditional kit to the school. Children need to learn more about our tradition, and they need these kits.
Budiriro B College director, Alson Vutabwashe, thanked Kuka for his thoughtful donation, saying it would make a meaningful difference in the students’ educational journey.
