The Bulawayo Regional Magistrates’ Court has sentenced three inmates to 20 years each for aggravated indecent assault after they took turns to sodomise a fellow inmate in December 2024.
On December 29, during a power outage at Bulawayo Prison, the three inmates, aged 30, 29, and 24, sexually assaulted a 20-year-old cellmate.
The assault began when the 30-year-old offender approached the victim, asking him to sleep near him.
When the victim refused, the offender returned with the 24-year-old accomplice, and they both insisted that the victim move to their sleeping area.
When the victim continued to decline their advances, the two offenders forcibly lifted him and manhandled him into their space.
Once there, they forced him to lie on his side while the third offender covered the victim’s face with a blanket, pressing him down firmly.
The assailants then took turns sexually assaulting the victim without his consent.
The victim later reported the incident to prison wardens, who referred the matter to the police.
He subsequently underwent a medical examination to assess the extent of his injuries.
