Court Orders Kudakwashe Mahachi To Pay US$320 In Child Maintenance

Former Warriors striker Kudakwashe Mahachi has been ordered to pay US$320 per month in child maintenance following a court case brought by his ex-wife, Marita Ndlovu.

The ruling was handed down last Friday by Provincial Magistrate Shepherd Mnjanja at the Bulawayo Magistrates’ Court.

The court directed Mahachi to pay US$200 per month for the younger child and US$120 for the older child—whose paternity he is currently disputing.

In addition to the monthly payments, Mahachi has been ordered to cover the cost of a DNA test to determine whether he is the biological father of the older child.

Magistrate Mnjanja ruled that if the DNA test confirms Mahachi as the father, the maintenance for that child may be increased.

However, if the test proves otherwise, the obligation to support the child will be removed.

The court also ruled that both parents must share the responsibility of school fees and other education-related costs for their two children.

During the proceedings, Marita told the court that Mahachi had not contributed anything toward the children’s upkeep since 2022, leaving her to bear the financial burden alone.

She had requested US$630 per month, citing the high cost of raising the children—including food, clothing, medical bills, transport, and school expenses.

She also revealed that one of the children is physically challenged and requires a wheelchair and ongoing medical care due to an injury sustained while under Mahachi’s care.

Mahachi, through his lawyer, disputed the paternity of the older child and insisted that financial responsibility should be shared equally between both parents.

Mahachi had offered a combined US$220 for both children—an amount the court deemed insufficient given the children’s needs and his earning potential. Said Mahachi’s lawyer:

If the DNA test proves Mahachi is not the father, we expect Marita to be arrested for misleading the court.

Marita said that if the results confirm Mahachi as the biological father, he must pay for defaming her name.
