Police have arrested a 52-year-old man, Isaac Dhliwayo, in connection with a fraud case involving the alleged misappropriation of more than US$16,000 in a botched vehicle import deal.
According to a statement released by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Dhliwayo was taken into custody on June 5, 2025, after allegedly defrauding a complainant who had entrusted him with funds to import a 2016 Honda Vezel. The ZRP said:
The suspect allegedly misrepresented to the complainant that he would facilitate the importation of a 2016 Honda Vezel valued at US$14,000.
The complainant reportedly handed over a total of US$16,130 in cash between November 2024 and April 2025, with the additional amount meant to cover importation and miscellaneous expenses.
However, police say Dhliwayo failed to deliver the vehicle as promised and instead converted the money to personal use.
