An artisanal gold miner was arrested on Sunday by National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) loss control personnel after being caught digging for gold beneath railway tracks in Mvuma.
The miner caused major damage to the ground under the railway lines, raising safety concerns.
The NRZ has warned the public against engaging in any mining activities within the railway reserve, a protected zone extending 45 metres on either side of the tracks.
Such activities not only threaten the integrity and safety of the railway infrastructure but also violate the Railways Act.
Prospecting or mining within this reserve is illegal and carries severe penalties, including imprisonment for up to 10 years. The NRZ said:
An artisanal gold miner was arrested by NRZ loss control personnel on Sunday while digging for gold under the railway tracks in Mvuma. The miner caused extensive damage to the ground under the tracks.
The NRZ urges people not to engage in mining activities within the railway reserve which is land 45 metres on either side of the tracks.
It is an offence under the Railways Act to prospect for minerals within the railway reserve and is punishable by up to 10 years in jail.
I wonder if this person is normal in his brains,he should be examined. His love of money is too much. He sholud be locked up in jail,we can not stay with such kind of people.
