Woman Kills Daughter, Cites Lack Of Father’s Support

A 29-year-old woman in Matebeleland North Province has been arrested for allegedly strangling her daughter to death.

Police say the woman claimed her decision was motivated by the child’s father’s failure to provide financial support.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the tragic incident, which occurred in Seafield Estate village on May 28th. He said:

On May 30, 2025, police in Nyamandlovu arrested Simangaliso Dube (29) in connection with a murder case which occurred in Seafield Estate village on May 28, 2025.

The suspect allegedly strangled her one-year-seven-month-old daughter, Shylet Sibanda, citing that the father was not financially supporting the child.

Police initially investigated the death of the young girl as a sudden death, but a post-mortem examination revealed the cause of death to be mechanical asphyxia and strangulation, leading to the mother’s arrest.

In a separate incident on May 30th, police in Lusulu apprehended 24-year-old Alfred Mutale for the murder of 22-year-old Headman Moyo in Chipale.

The altercation began when Mutale allegedly reprimanded Moyo for insulting people at the Zumanana Business Centre.

Mutale then stabbed Moyo once in the chest and stomach; Moyo later died at the Chipale Rural Health Centre.
