The owner of a cross-breed pit bull that killed a man in Bluff Hill on Sunday has been remanded in custody after the State opposed bail.
Mike Mupinga appeared before Magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa on Tuesday, June 3, charged with culpable homicide, but he was not asked to plead.
Magistrate Gofa is expected to make a bail ruling on Friday.
Prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi told the court that on May 31, Mupinga, who owns three pit bulls and a Rottweiler, negligently left the dogs roaming in his yard, which is enclosed by a short perimeter wall.
The dogs scaled the wall and attacked Samuel Machara, who was walking along the nearby street.
Machara sustained multiple bites, resulting in deep wounds to his neck and lacerations on his hands, legs, and stomach. He died instantly from his injuries.
Mupinga has an outstanding warrant for arrest related to a pending rape allegation.
