Five Masked Men Hit Mukuru And Gain Store In Murambinda, Leave Guard And Driver Tied Up

Five daring armed robbers got away with a stash of money, US$11,187 and ZAR31,300 from a Mukuru outlet, plus another US$2,060 from Gain Cash and Carry.

The Mukuru outlet is housed within the Gain Cash and Carry at Murambinda in Buhera.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Manicaland confirmed the incident through Acting Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka.

According to Chinyoka, the robbers struck around 8 PM, tying up a security guard and a truck driver using shoelaces.

The two only managed to free themselves at around 4 AM the next day and went straight to the police to report the crime.

The gang of five, who were all dressed in black and wearing balaclavas, are still on the run. Police are appealing to anyone with information that could help track them down.

On the night of the robbery, 39-year-old security guard Stanley Chaboka, from Jaru in Murambinda, was on duty at Gain Cash and Carry. He was armed with a revolver and had a guard dog with him.

The building’s alarm went off around 6 PM and again at 8 PM. Both times, Chaboka checked around and found nothing suspicious.

After the second time, he informed the shop’s manager, Obey Mereka (39), who told him to take another look around.

That’s when five men appeared out of the dark. One had a pistol, and the rest were carrying wooden sticks.

Chaboka tried to run but was stopped by the one with the gun. They tied him up with shoelaces and dragged him to a parked truck behind the shop.

The gang then interrogated him, and he told them there was a truck driver nearby waiting to offload a delivery the next morning.

They found the driver, Kudakwashe Munyoro (36), and tied him up too. While the gunman kept watch, the other four broke into the building through a toilet window.

They tampered with the CCTV system, broke into the safes, and took off with the cash.

Chaboka and Munyoro were left tied up until they managed to free themselves hours later.
