“Mother And Son, Not Husband And Wife”, Pastor Chiwenga Warns Dhuterere Will Leave His Wife, Again

Controversial preacher Talent Chiwenga has taken aim at businessman Wicknell Chivayo for allegedly pressuring gospel musician Mambo Dhuterere to reconcile with his wife, Mai Dhuterere, by gifting the couple brand-new vehicles and cash.

The couple had reportedly separated following Mai Dhuterere’s arrest on fraud charges in 2024.

Chiwenga questioned the sincerity of the reunion, suggesting that Dhuterere was being coerced into taking his wife back in exchange for money and material gifts.

He went further, casting doubt on the couple’s compatibility, claiming their relationship resembled that of a mother and son rather than husband and wife, due to their age difference.

Mambo Dhuterere, born Darlington Mutseta on 3 March 1992, is 33 years old, while his wife, Mavis Vambe, turns 37 this year.

In traditional African culture, it is generally preferred for a man to marry a younger woman. Marrying an older woman often subjects men to ridicule, with some even mockingly referring to such wives as “grannies.”

The outspoken preacher also suggested that Dhuterere is unhappy in the marriage and predicted he might leave his family again in the near future. Chiwenga said:

I saw that they are trying to use money to force Dhuterere to stay with his mother whom he had married for all these years. It’s unfortunate.

I saw the picture of Dhuterere and his mother receiving cars from Chivayo. You can see that this one is a child. This one is a parent. It’s very clear.

The woman dresses like a mother. Dhuterere still dresses as a small boy. Puts his cap and his he drops his trousers… We talked about it. Mark my words.

Dhuterere we will leave. It doesn’t matter they buy him a private jet. He will leave. It’s a Dracula. This is not a marriage…

Chivayo gifted gospel musicians Mambo Dhuterere and Mai Dhuterere brand-new Toyota Fortuner SUVs and a substantial cash donation in recognition of their contributions to Zimbabwean gospel music.

In a statement shared on social media on Friday, 23 May, Chivayo praised the duo for revolutionising the apostolic gospel sound and uniting Zimbabweans through their music.

To celebrate their achievements, Chivayo announced that the musicians could collect their fully paid white Toyota Fortuner 2.8 GD6 vehicles from Faramatsi Motors.

In addition, he offered Mambo Dhuterere US$50,000 and Mai Dhuterere US$100,000, acknowledging her role as a wife and mother.

He also addressed social media reports about alleged marital difficulties between the couple. He expressed hope that they would reconcile, citing the importance of family unity and faith.

He urged the pair to overcome any personal challenges for the sake of their children and their shared mission. Said Chivayo:

From the depths of my heart, I urge you to find your way back to each other in full love and unity. I might not be privy to any of your DIFFERENCES, but for the sake of your BEAUTIFUL children, who deserve to grow up in a home filled with both their parents’ love and for the sake of the KINGDOM of God, which is GLORIFIED when you stand together as a family, you are always BETTER TOGETHER.

None of us are perfect and every marriage faces STORMS, but with God ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE. You have touched so many lives side by side and your UNITY has been part of your testimony, showing us that a family that PRAYS together STAYS together…

My advice to you my young brother, you still have the CHANCE to save what is PRECIOUS. Be the example that even if clouds gather, zuva RICHABUDA CHETE.

I pray that you FORGIVE each other and let God RESTORE your home, heal your family and INSPIRE countless other couples and families who look up to you and who have been RECONCILED by your music.

May you both find PEACE and healing and may your union EMERGE STRONGER than ever.

Critics have accused Chivayo of hypocrisy for urging Mambo Dhuterere to reconcile with his wife, despite having recently divorced his own wife, Sonja Madzikanda, and marrying another woman, Lucy Muteke.
