Two Women Remanded Over Fire That Destroyed Musician Trevor Dongo’s Property

Two women, Tanaka Mafukidze (24) and Prudent Chipo Musimike (25), have appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing charges of malicious damage to property following a fire that destroyed property belonging to musician Trevor Dongo.

The incident occurred on 21 March 2025 at Lombard Mansions in Harare, in a flat owned by Rosemary Danda.

According to court papers, Danda was alerted by her brother that her property was on fire. Upon rushing to the scene, she reportedly found the flat engulfed in flames and two women, allegedly intoxicated, at the site.

Investigations led police to Danda’s tenant, Trevor Dongo, who reportedly had invited his girlfriend, Mafukidze (Accused 1), to the flat earlier that day.
Mafukidze had been out for lunch with her friend, Musimike (Accused 2), and brought her along.

A dispute reportedly arose between Dongo and Mafukidze over Musimike’s presence, after which Dongo briefly left the flat to collect a friend.

While Dongo was away, it is alleged that the two women continued arguing, which escalated and resulted in a fire being started, whether intentionally or recklessly remains subject to court findings.

When Dongo returned, he found the flat ablaze. The total value of the damaged property is estimated at US$21,178.

Both women have been remanded in custody, and the matter is set for trial on 11 June 2025.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has urged members of the public to resolve personal disputes peacefully and to seek mediation instead of resorting to actions that may cause harm or destruction.
