President Emmerson Mnangagwa officially commissioned the Trabablas Interchange in Harare on Friday, 30 May, marking the reopening of the key infrastructure after nearly three years of closure.
The interchange was immediately opened to traffic following the commissioning ceremony.
Addressing ZANU PF supporters during his keynote speech, Mnangagwa praised the efforts of local professionals, including engineers, for their role in completing the project. He said:
This landmark interchange connects three major roads, Simon Mazorodze, High Glen and Chitungwiza.
The project involved the construction of 15 major bridge structures, some as high as 18 metres above ground, with 13 of them directly on the interchange and two on Amalinda and Harare Drive.
I also applaud the local engineers, planners, skilled artisans and construction workers for their dedication on this project.
These abundant skills in our great motherland, Zimbabwe, should now be deployed for the modernisation of infrastructure across the entire SADC region and our African continent as a whole.
The new US$88 million interchange is located at the intersection of Simon Mazorodze, Chitungwiza, and High Glen roads.
For years, the old Mbudzi Roundabout was a major traffic bottleneck, particularly during peak hours, frequently causing long delays and accidents.
The redevelopment includes a modern flyover, widened lanes, and improved pedestrian walkways to ease congestion and improve safety.
