Hosiah Chipanga Says His Music Is Being Snubbed By Radio Stations

Legendary Sungura musician Hosiah Chipanga claims his music is being ignored by radio stations, though he says he’s unsure of the reasons behind the apparent snub.

Despite the setback, Chipanga has vowed not to quit music. He is currently working on his 30th album, which he plans to release before the end of the year.

Chipanga said the album will feature songs that speak to everyday life and the challenges people face.

However, he kept the details under wraps — no song titles, album name, or featured artists just yet. Said Chipanga:

I am concerned that my music is being snubbed by radio stations and the reasons behind this are unclear to me.

I am not sure why my music is not receiving airplay. My lyrics are clean, yet radio stations seem to be deliberately snubbing my work.

This has led to speculation on social media that I have retired from music. However, this won’t deter me from spreading my message through music.

Instead, I will leverage social media and live performances to engage with my fans and promote my music nationwide.

Chipanga said he is currently focusing on farming activities at his rural home in Watsomba, where he spends most of his time tending to his land and livestock.  He said:

Yes, I am currently concentrating on farming at my rural home in Watsomba but I have not quit music although I must confess that I am spending more time at my farm.

I am very active in live performances and I have been travelling across the country meeting fans in sold-out shows.

Locally, prominent clubs like Club Mandisa in Mutare’s City Centre have expressed interest in hosting me again in the near future, which is a welcome development since charity begins at home.

Chipanga, who has been in the music game for over 40 years, is set to team up with Alick Macheso this weekend for a series of live shows.
