Former Chitungwiza Deputy Mayor’s Home Petrol-Bombed | Report

The home of opposition figure Rangarirai Mutingwende was reportedly petrol-bombed late on Thursday night in what the Citizens’ Coalition for Change (CCC) has condemned as a politically motivated attack.

The CCC alleges that suspected members of ZANU PF were behind the incident, targeting Mutingwende, whom the party described as a “champion” in the fight for a better Zimbabwe.

According to the family, the attack was preceded by two days of unexplained surveillance, with two unmarked white Toyota Fortuners reportedly seen parked outside Mutingwende’s residence.

Earlier that day, Mutingwende’s daughter, Jerita Mutingwende, a former councillor recalled from office, is said to have narrowly escaped an abduction attempt. The family credits local residents with thwarting the alleged attempt.

In response to the attack, the opposition has deployed security personnel to the former Chitungwiza deputy mayor’s home as a precaution.

Police are reported to have launched an investigation and were at the scene on Friday morning to assess the damage.
