Hwange Man (64) Assaults Wife After Confrontation At Girlfriend’s Home

Two men have recently been convicted of physically abusing their wives, highlighting the ongoing issue of domestic violence in Zimbabwe.

In separate incidents, a 64-year-old man from Hwange and a 20-year-old man from Kwekwe faced charges in their respective magistrates’ courts.

The Hwange man was sentenced to a US$200 fine or three months imprisonment, with an additional three-month sentence wholly suspended for five years.

The court heard that on April 17th, 2025, the victim followed her husband to his girlfriend’s home. Upon discovering her husband in his girlfriend’s bedroom, a confrontation ensued.

The husband responded with violence, striking the victim repeatedly before dragging her outside and continuing the assault with kicks.

In the Kwekwe case, a 20-year-old man received a sentence of three months imprisonment or a US$150 fine.

The incident stemmed from a disagreement on May 18th, 2025, when his 19-year-old wife requested money for the electricity bill.

The ensuing argument escalated into violence, leading the wife to report the assault to the police. She subsequently received treatment at Kwekwe General Hospital.

  1. Man, we have a pivotal role to play in the protection of our spouses. The two cases reported here show that we are both the provokers and meters of ‘justice’ This is totally uncalled and must stop forthwith.
