The body of an unidentified man, believed to be between 20 and 25 years old, was found near a railway line over the weekend.
He was discovered with both legs crushed, lying beside the tracks about 300 metres from the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) Diesel Shed in Bulawayo’s western suburbs.
Bulawayo Province police acting spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, said the body was found at around 10:50 AM on Saturday by a 37-year-old train driver from Pelandaba West.
The driver was on his way from the NRZ Diesel Shed to Bulawayo Main Station when he made the discovery. Said Msebele:
As the train approached a curve near the shed, the driver noticed two pairs of shoes, one white, one black, lying near the track and immediately brought the train to a stop.
When the driver looked more closely, he saw the lifeless body of a young man lying just 2.5 metres from the railway line, on the right-hand side. Police believe his legs may have been crushed by a train that passed earlier.
The man was wearing a black jacket, green sweater, green T-shirt, grey jeans, and a black belt. He is described as having a light complexion.
The body was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) for a post-mortem, and investigations are ongoing.
Assistant Inspector Msebele has asked anyone who is missing a relative matching this description to contact their nearest police station or visit UBH to help identify the man.
