Zimbabwean Man Arrested In South Africa For Smuggling 44,941 Packets Of Epiderm Cream

Tiritese Chimbwanda (43), a Zimbabwean national, appeared before the Zeerust Magistrates’ Court, South Africa, on Tuesday, 27 May 2025, facing charges of contravening the Medicines and Related Substances Act 101 of 1965.

Chimbwanda was arrested on 25 May at the Kopfontein Border Post by members of the Border Management Authority.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), a truck arriving from Botswana was stopped for inspection after the driver declared he had no cargo.

Upon conducting a search, officials allegedly discovered 44,941 packets of Epiderm Cream concealed beneath the trailer.

The Medical Control Council has since deemed the product undesirable.

Following the discovery, Chimbwanda was taken into custody.

He appeared in court, and his matter was postponed to 03 June 2025 for bail application.
