Road Traffic Accidents Decline Over 2025 Africa Day Holiday, But More Lives Lost

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has reported a significant reduction in road traffic accidents during the 2025 Africa Day Holiday compared to the same period in 2024. However, despite the decline in overall accidents and injuries, the number of fatalities has seen a slight increase.

According to statistics released by the ZRP on Tuesday, 27 May, the number of road traffic accidents dropped from 190 in 2024 to 128 in 2025. Injuries also decreased, with 22 people injured this year compared to 35 last year.

In contrast, fatal accidents rose from six in 2024 to seven in 2025, with the number of deaths increasing from seven to eight.

Meanwhile, the ZRP has identified three victims who lost their lives in a fatal crash that occurred on 26 May 2025, at the 30-kilometre mark along the Masvingo–Mbalabala Road.
