Mutare Woman Arrested For Stabbing Creditor

A woman from Hobhouse, Mutare, has been arrested for attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a man who had asked her to repay a debt.

Mouldy Chinhengo Takaidza (23) was taken into custody following the incident in Penhalonga, where she reportedly stabbed Praymore Masuka (28) in the chest.

Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Manicaland Province, confirmed the arrest, though the exact amount owed by Takaidza was not disclosed. He said:

On May 13 and at around 7pm, at Penhalonga shops, Takaidza was approached by Masuka, whom she owed. Masuka asked for his money, but Takaidza told him that she did not have it.

Masuka insisted that he wanted his money back, and persistently asked for it. This angered Takaidza, who picked a kitchen knife and stabbed Masuka once on the left side of the chest.

The incident took place at a food outlet, where the knife used in the attack was not recovered.

According to Chinyoka, after being stabbed, Masuka collapsed to the ground, severely wounded.

Instead of assisting him, Takaidza fled to ZRP Penhalonga, where she made a false report, claiming that Masuka had attacked her, forcing her to retaliate in self-defence.

A well-wisher later transported Masuka to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital in Mutare, where he received medical attention. Said Chinyoka:

However, the following day, a report of assault was made at ZRP Penhalonga, and police officers attended the scene.

The police proceeded to the hospital to check on Masuka’s condition, and noted that he had a deep cut on the left side of the chest.

They also observed that his condition is serious. He had no struggling marks on his body. The matter was then changed from a mere assault to attempted murder due to the seriousness of Masuka’s condition.

Chinyoka confirmed that the knife used in the attack has not yet been recovered. Following investigations, Takaidza was subsequently arrested.
