Comedian and musician Freddy Manjalima, better known as Kapfupi, has appealed to businessman Wicknell Chivayo for another car after the one he was gifted in 2024 was written off in a road accident.
Kapfupi is one of several local celebrities who’ve received cars from Chivayo over the past year. But a few of those vehicles, including Kapfupi’s, have ended up in crashes.
Others affected include Zion Christian Church (ZCC) leader Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi, Daisy Mtukudzi, and Prophet Talent Madungwe.
Kapfupi blamed what he called “evil forces” from his home village for the accident, saying there are people who don’t want to see him succeed.
Kapfupi might take comfort in knowing that Chivayo has replaced damaged cars before. After the luxury Range Rover Autobiography SV (worth US$400,000) he had gifted to Bishop Mutendi was involved in an accident, Chivayo went one better — upgrading the vehicle to a 2025 Mercedes-Benz Maybach GL600 Facelift, valued at around US$550,000.
Posting on social media on Tuesday, Kapfupi, who referred to Chivayo as “father”, said he’s now relying on public transport. He wrote:
Dear Sir Wicknell chekutanga ndinotenda Mwari akatipa imii pasi pano ndini mwana wenyu Freddy manjalima kapfupi ndinotenda nemudziyo wamakandipa baba makabatsira zvikuru uye raiwa badza rekuti ndiwane kusakura uye ndiwane kufambisa kuenda kumabasa kuti mhuri dzirarame asi mhepowo dzekumusha kwatinobva dzisingade kuona chakanaka pamwana washe dzakapindira ndikasangana netsaona Mota ikadhumwa ikaita beyond repair musiwa 23 December last year. Firstly, I give thanks to God for blessing us with you in this world. I am your child, Freddy Manjalima Kapfupi, and I deeply appreciate the gift you gave me, Father. You helped me immensely, and the tool you provided allowed me to cultivate and earn a livelihood, ensuring my family’s survival.
However, the forces from my home village that do not wish to see good things happen in the life of the Lord’s child intervened, and I was involved in an accident. My car was hit and was damaged beyond repair on 23 December last year.
Father, they say a child who does not cry will perish in silence. I am now crying out to you again, Father, as I no longer have transportation. Your child is now forced to board public transport again—is there any hope, Father?
I pray that my message reaches you, Baba Wicknell Chivayo. I am truly grateful.
