Police are investigating two harrowing incidents involving infants in Gokwe and Filabusi.
In the first case, police in Gokwe arrested 20-year-old Janet Mudzingwa on 24 May 2025 for allegedly concealing the birth of her child.
Investigations indicate that Mudzingwa gave birth on 22 May 2025 at Chiwashira Village, Chireya and subsequently discarded the newborn in a disused toilet pit. Police later retrieved the infant’s body from the pit.
Meanwhile, police in Filabusi are investigating a gruesome murder case in Ukuzwisisa Village, Marubamba area.
On 25 May 2025, an eight-week-old baby boy was found dead with severe injuries, including missing portions of his nose and right cheek.
The mother had left the infant sleeping in a spare bedroom while she was having breakfast in a kitchen hut.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) urges anyone with relevant information to report to the nearest police station to assist in investigations.
