Wicknell Chivayo has paid tribute to veteran journalist Rueben Barwe and honoured him with a brand-new 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser VXR LX 300 Series and a cash gift of US$100,000 in recognition of his decades of service to Zimbabwean broadcasting.
Chivayo, in a heartfelt message, described Barwe as one of Zimbabwe’s most distinguished news reporters.
He reminisced about his childhood memories of watching Barwe deliver news on ZBC, noting how the journalist’s unique style made him a household name across the country.
Chivayo said Barwe has covered Zimbabwe’s history through major national events, from independence celebrations and Heroes Days to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Wrote Chivayo:

In an interview, Barwe said he was very happy that his hard work over the past 40 years in broadcasting had finally been recognised. He said:
I feel elated that after 40 years of service in broadcasting, somebody has recognised my contribution to this country’s peace and development. I feel happy, my wife is happy, so happy.
