Six Injured After Honda Fit Driver Attempts To Beat Train At Level Crossing In Harare

Six people were seriously injured early on Wednesday morning (21 May 2025) when the car they were in collided with a train at a level crossing on Chiremba Road in Harare.

The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) said the driver of a Honda Fit tried to pass through the crossing in front of an oncoming train, causing the crash around 1 AM. The injured men were quickly taken to the hospital for treatment.

The NRZ has expressed concern over the incident and wishes the victims a speedy recovery. They’ve also repeated their plea for drivers to be extra cautious when approaching level crossings and to stop if a train is coming.

This follows a similar incident in Gweru on 13 May 2025, where a Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Mahindra vehicle was damaged after being hit by a train at a level crossing.

The driver, a police officer, failed to stop at the crossing as required by law. Thankfully, both the driver and his passenger, also a police officer, escaped serious injury.
